Senior Hatchery Technician/Manager

Nelson

Friday 22nd June

Moana New Zealand is a 100% New Zealand Māori owned seafood company. We connect the world to the true taste and rare magic of New Zealand’s very best seafood (kaimoana).

As true guardians of Māori fishery assets in one of the world’s most pristine and sustainably managed fisheries, we are dedicated to the wellbeing of future generations (whakatipuranga) through a deep sense of responsibility to our people (manaakitanga) and the environment our kaimoana comes from (kaitiakitanga). Our aquaculture operations are integral in this.

Situated in sunny Nelson New Zealand, an area well known for high sunshine hours and easy access to the great outdoors, our Pacific oyster nursery is a key part of our extensive oyster farming operations. We are increasing our shellfish hatchery capability and are now seeking an experienced Shellfish Hatchery Technician/Manager to join our small but passionate team.

This is a full-time permanent position and a fantastic, exciting opportunity for the right person. Key duties expected in the role include;

• Leading the development of our Pacific oyster hatchery and micro-nursery
• Training and developing staff in all aspects of hatchery operation
• Contributing and assisting with hatchery-related research projects
• Assisting in all aspects of current nursery production

The right person will have a proven track record in commercial hatchery production, preferably with bivalve shellfish. Essential attributes include strong computer literacy and communication skills with a positive and ambitious attitude. You will be expected to work productively alone or as part of a small team and willing to work regular scheduled weekends. Previous managerial or other leadership experience is desirable.

As we are a Māori owned business you’ll have cultural empathy and an understanding of, or willingness to learn and engage in, Māori language and customs.
