Chatham Islands

12:00 pm, 26 February 2021

We connect the world to the true taste and rare magic of New Zealand’s best kaimoana.

The Chatham Islands lie 750 km to the east of New Zealand’s South Island.  Moana is one of the biggest employers on the island,  which is home to a small community of people, surrounded by pristine waters,  that are world renowned for their rock lobster (crayfish), paua (abalone) and blue cod, that are sustainably harvested on these islands.

Our Opportunity:

We are looking for Factory Process Workers, ideally with knife hand or paua shucking expertise, to join our Inshore Team on the Chatham Islands.

We are recruiting multiple fixed term roles to support the factory team during our peak period starting in early 2021.

These assignments focus on processing seafood; grading, packing and transporting  of fish, paua and lobster. A critical part of this role is ensuring the highest standard of food safety and quality,  following all health & safety processes and practices and working as an effective and reliable member of the team.

From quality control and labouring duties to cleaning and supporting landings and loadouts, this is a physical role that requires focus and commitment and at all times.

Due to the nature of the business and changing tides and weather conditions you need to be adaptable and flexible when it comes to days and hours of work.

This is a team-based operations, so you need to enjoy working with others, be able to take instructions and follow process, whilst  supporting your colleagues and ensuring that every day, you are meeting targets, working to a high level of productivity and keeping each other safe.

We operate our factories and processing functions to the strictest standard of food safety and compliance. It requires every one of our people to be committed to achieving this high standard, adhering to all health & safety requirements and aligning behaviour, performance and engagement to our values and code of conduct.

What You Will Bring:

As a team player,  you will have a reputation for being hardworking, reliable and keen to learn. Physically fit, you will pride yourself on your honesty, integrity and ability to build relationships and communicate effectively.

You need to be process orientated, organised and committed to ensuring the highest standards of food quality and safety are applied to the end to end operations. You will enjoy the remoteness and experience of living on the Chatham’s for several months, and the opportunity to build long lasting relationships with a close-knit team. With a genuine passion for seafood and developing your skills in processing and as a knife hand, this is a great opportunity to work within a business that is committed to operational excellence, health and safety and producing premium products.

Experience in fish/seafood processing, or a level 2 or 4 driver’s licence would be advantageous but is not essential.

Please note you must be:

  • eligible to work in NZ
  • a reliable and efficient worker
  • able to pass a pre-employment criminal, medial and drug and alcohol testing
  • fit and healthy
  • Currently living on the Chatham Islands, with your own accommodation and transportation
