Important notes before you order
North Island:
While we can deliver to most addresses in the North Island, we aren’t able to deliver to rural delivery addresses. There are few locations within Auckland that couriers will not service, we will notify you if this is the case with your address.
South Island:
Couriers are not refrigerated and with the additional time required for sending packages between the North to South Islands we cannot promise the package will be in a safe and edible state by the time it reaches you. We apologise for any inconvenience this could cause.
FAQs for our ready to eat meal range
We are currently engaging with individual supermarkets nationwide to stock our full range of products. Product releases will be staggered and as a result your local supermarket may not have received stock at this time.
If you cannot locate our product in your local supermarket please ask at the counter for assistance, as they may be able to source these products for you.
Customers living in the North Island in non-rural locations will be able to purchase our full range of products through our online shop (www.shop.moana.co.nz ). Unfortunately, at this time we will not be able to process orders from the South Island or addresses marked as rural by our courier provider.
As the list of stores listing these products is dynamic, please call 0800 466 262 if you need further information.
You’ll find our range of Ready to Eat meals in the chilled foods section of your local supermarket typically near where the soups and sauces/dips are located. This location may vary from store to store, please ask a supermarket employee for assistance.
Most of our Ready-to-Eat meals are Gluten Free with the exception of the Rewarewa Honey, Soy and Ginger Chicken flavour which contains Wheat and Gluten. Our exemplary allergen cleaning processes ensure that while our manufacturing facility is used to prepare glutenous and gluten free meals, cross contamination is highly improbable. Meal flavours are prepared separately as another precaution against cross contamination.
Here is a full list of which of our products are Gluten Free:
- Gluten Free: Coconut and Turmeric Fish Curry
- Gluten Free: Creamy Seafood Chowder
- Gluten Free: Horopito and Beef Ragu
- Gluten Free: Kumara Paneer and Chickpea Curry
- Gluten Free: Lemongrass Chilli Coconut Fish Curry
Please note that despite our strict manufacturing processes we cannot guarantee meals containing fish are completely free of fishbones. We advise caution when consuming the following meals:
- Creamy Seafood Chowder (May contain Crustacea and Fishbones)
- Coconut and Turmeric Fish Curry (May contain Fishbones)
- Lemongrass Chilli Coconut Fish Curry (May contain Fishbones)
Our meals are ready to heat and eat straight from the pouch. You’ll find other helpful serving suggestions on the back of each of our Ready-to-Eat meal packs.

We are passionate about our local producers and supporting the New Zealand economy which is why our Ready-to-Eat meal range features locally grown and harvested New Zealand ingredients wherever possible.
Fish used in our meals is caught by Moana New Zealand’s artisanal contract fishers around the North Island. Most of our contract fishers have been fishers for generations and take great care in harvesting with a lightness of touch.
Our chicken is free range New Zealand chicken, and our grass feed beef is also supplied to us by New Zealand farmers. Other ingredients such as our kumara, capsicum, horopito, paneer, mussels, sweetcorn and more are also grown in New Zealand.
Where we cannot source local produce, we use imported products. These ingredients make up a small percentage of our meals and are typically aromatics and spices which are not able to be grown in New Zealand.
You will find heating instructions for all our products on the back of the pouch. If heating using a microwave, we recommend emptying the contents into a microwaveable bowl. The plastic meal pouches can withstand the temperature of the microwave but please be mindful when using this method, the pouch must be torn open enough to allow stirring and even distribution of heat. Utmost care must be taken using this method to avoid steam burns and possible spills.
Stove top: Empty contents into a saucepan. Heat on medium to a simmer. Stirring frequently. Heat for a further 2-3 minutes, until starting to bubble. Remove from heat, tip into bowls, and serve immediately.
Microwave: Empty packet into a microwaveable bowl. Cover. Heat on HIGH (1000W) for 2 minutes. Stir. Cover again and heat for a further minute until product is hot. Heating times can vary depending on microwave power.

Don’t be alarmed if your products have partially thawed on their journey to you. You can expect a small amount of thawing to occur and products should always feel cold to the touch. If your product feels more than 50% thawed, we recommend eating it and not re-freezing.
If you have serious concerns about your order please do not consume the product and contact kaimoana@test.moananewzealand.nz with your order number, contact details and photos of the product.
Food safety tips
How long you thaw your products depends on what sort of product you have ordered:
Oysters: Leave in the fridge overnight to gently thaw and serve chilled with a squeeze of lemon.
Fish: Leave in the fridge overnight or until thawed before cooking. The flesh should remain firm for cooking
Crayfish tails: Leave in the fridge until thawed before cooking.
We recommend leaving your kaimoana to thaw in the fridge, after all you wouldn’t cook other meat straight from the freezer!
Please refer to the best before date printed on the product. This is the period of time it is safe to store in the freezer.

Our packaging
Depending on where in the North Island you live, your parcel will arrive in a polystyrene box or Chilltainer with ice gel packs to keep your kaimoana at a suitable temperature and to protect it from rapid fluctuations in temperature.
We cannot give recycling advice with absolute certainty due to differing Council capabilities from region to region. We recommend referring to your local Council's website for more accurate recycling information.
In most areas, the Chilltainer box will be able to be collected in your curb side recycling. It is a cardboard product and the metallic coating is also recyclable. To learn more about this product please visit chilltainers.com.
Trays used to package fish and oysters are also recyclable in most areas. Our fish trays are created from plant and recycled materials, to learn more about this product please visit plantic.com.au
Gel packs are able to be used multiple times but if you would like to dispose of them, please pierce each pouch and empty the contents in your kitchen sink. This substance is safe to dispose of in this manner. If your region collects soft plastics, this product can be dropped at your nearest soft plastics station.
Although it is our preference to use Chilltainers wherever possible, for longer journeys we will send your kaimoana in a polystyrene box. This is for food safety purposes and ensuring your kaimoana reaches you in the best possible state. We are currently looking at alternatives to polystyrene for future ordering options.
