At Moana New Zealand, we’re passionate about sharing the world’s best seafood both locally and internationally. We are seeking an experienced and motivated Retail Manager to lead our specialist seafood retail store in Moore Wilson, in the heart of Wellington City.

Reporting to the Production Manager based in Porirua, this is an exciting opportunity for a retail leader who enjoys building high-performing teams, creating exceptional customer experiences, and driving commercial success. You’ll have overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the store, leading a team of approximately 10 employees, including a Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor.

As the face of our Wellington retail operation, you’ll set the standard for customer service excellence, product knowledge, merchandising, team performance, and sales growth, while bringing fresh ideas to attract customers and grow the business.

What you’ll be responsible for

• Leading, coaching and developing a team of Retail Assistants, including direct leadership of the Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor
• Creating a positive, high-performing culture focused on teamwork, accountability and customer service excellence
• Managing staff rosters,  weekly time and attendance records, leave requests and day-to-day store operations
• Recruiting, onboarding and training team members to Moana’s retail standards
• Ensuring exceptional customer experiences that drive loyalty and repeat business
• Maintaining outstanding merchandising, product presentation and store standards
• Building strong product knowledge capability across the team
• Driving sales performance and identifying opportunities to increase revenue and profitability
• Developing local marketing initiatives, promotions and community engagement activities
• Ensuring compliance with food safety, health and safety, and company policies

What you’ll bring

• Proven experience leading a retail team and delivering strong commercial results, ideally from within a food retail environment
• Strong people management and coaching skills
• Experience managing rosters, timesheets, recruitment and training
• A passion for delivering exceptional customer service
• Strong merchandising and retail presentation skills
• Commercial acumen and a proactive approach to growing sales
• Advantageous to have experience using social media, community engagement or local marketing initiatives to drive customer traffic
• Confidence making decisions and taking ownership of store performance
• Knowledge of seafood or fresh food retail is advantageous but not essential
