Background
Māori Fisheries Amendment Act 2024 (MFAA)
The MFAA modernised aspects of the Māori Fisheries settlement framework, including governance and shareholding arrangements. Aotearoa Fisheries Limited (trading as Moana New Zealand) shares continue to be held by eligible iwi entities, with transfers permitted between iwi-owned Asset Holding Companies in accordance with the updated legislation and Aotearoa Fisheries Limited's Constitution.

Who can hold Aotearoa Fisheries Limited shares?
Aotearoa Fisheries Limited shares can only be held by eligible iwi entities through their Asset Holding Companies (or wholly owned subsidiaries), as provided for under the Māori Fisheries Act. Any transfer of shares must be between eligible Asset Holding Companies and comply with the Act and Aotearoa Fisheries Limited's Constitution.
