Moana New Zealand is the largest iwi-owned kaimoana company in Aotearoa. We connect the world to the true taste and rare magic of New Zealand’s best kaimoana — and we’re looking for a creative, digitally savvy communicator to help us share that story with our people, iwi shareholders, customers, communities and followers.

This is a hands-on role for someone who has a talent for creating content, understands digital channels, has a sharp eye for detail, and knows that well-timed comms can occasionally save the day.

About the opportunity

Reporting to the Communications & Sustainability Manager, you will bring a flair for social media and creating compelling and engaging content across a range of digital platforms that enhance Moana’s brand, customer, shareholder, and employee experience, using different technology will be second nature to you.

You bring fresh ideas and insights on opportunities, while ensuring the Moana New Zealand brand and reputation is safeguarded, across a range of platforms.

No day is the same so be prepared to be on the go, juggle multiple priorities and collaborate with a wide variety of people. No job will be too small or big, and you will be comfortable working with ambiguity, and nimble to last minute changes and redirection.

What you’ll be doing

• Create engaging content across digital, social and internal communication channels.
• Manage and publish content for our website, intranet and social media platforms.
• Produce He Karere, our internal newsletter, along with other employee communications.
• Maintain digital information screens across Moana sites.
• Support social media campaigns, content planning and audience engagement.
• Track performance and use insights to continually improve content effectiveness.
• Maintain digital assets and support shareholder and stakeholder communications.
• Build strong relationships across the business to identify and share compelling stories.
• Ensure all communications reflect our values, people and purpose.

While based in Mt Wellington, you’ll have opportunities to visit our sites across the North Island to capture stories and content firsthand. You’ll be equally comfortable engaging with senior leaders as you are pulling on gumboots and connecting with people on the factory floor or water.

Working as part of a small team, you’ll have the freedom to bring ideas to life and make a real impact.

What you’ll need to be successful

You’re a confident communicator who enjoys variety, thrives on building relationships, and can move between creative thinking and practical delivery with ease.

You’ll bring a strong mix of copywriting, design and digital skills — plus the kind of calm, can-do attitude that helps when five things need to go live and one image is still “coming shortly”.

You’ll bring:

• 2-3 years’ experience in communications, digital media, social media or a similar role.
• Relevant qualifications and/or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong copywriting, content creation and digital communication skills.
• Experience with Adobe Creative Suite and digital platforms such as Meta Business Suite and Google Analytics.
• Excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and stakeholder engagement capability.
• A proactive, collaborative approach and a current NZ driver’s licence.

Ideally, you’ll also have:

• Photography and/or video production skills.
• An understanding of the seafood, fisheries or primary industries.
• Knowledge of Māori fisheries and an interest in te reo Māori and tikanga.

You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand to be eligible for this role.
